Gulf Coast Bird Rescue’s first rescue in February 2013 was a great blue heron that was nicknamed “Peter.” The heron had a gash in its neck caused by a fish hook that made it impossible for the bird to eat. Peter was captured in the Shore Acres neighborhood in Saint Petersburg by GCBR volunteers who rehabilitated the bird. The heron made a complete recovery.
